Latest News24 Hour Race at Teesside Karting - 24th - 26 August 2007This year WT Racing has entered one of the most demanding and challenging races in motorsport; a 24 hour non-stop endurance Kart race. We have put together a team of 3 drivers for this. The drivers are; Will Thomas, Chris Hackworth and Paul Powell. Will Thomas you all know as the founder of WTRacing. As well as driving, he will be the brains behind the operation; organising the team and planning the strategy for the weekend. “This race is going to be a real challenge, as the Kart races I have done previously have been much shorter. Keeping focused on the task, as well as meeting the physical demands, will be hard work; but if we can keep the pace up and our minds on the job, we should do very well.” (Will Thomas) Paul and Chris have been good friends of Will’s for many years. The 3 drivers have been racing with and against each other since day one. Chris is an excellent Kart driver and has done very well in local Kart championships. Paul is also a brilliant Kart driver and the most experienced in endurance racing. “I am looking forward to racing with Paul and Chris again. We have always pushed each other on and off the track and have had one or two fallouts along the way; but that’s racing! I have a lot of respect for these two guys, both on and off the track. I have got to know them very well over the years and have enjoyed racing with and against them both.” (Will Thomas) The run up to the 24 hour race will consist of entering some local races for practice; hopefully including some practice runs at Teesside Karting itself. Teesside Karting, also known as Teesside Autodrome, is a 1300 metre outdoor circuit. The circuit is fully floodlit so that it can be used all year round. Teesside is widely recognised as the UK’s longest and fastest karting circuit. With an estimated 70 teams running on the endurance weekend, the track is going to be a very busy place, with lots of people on and off the track. The practice and qualify sessions will take place on Friday 24th August 2007. The race itself will begin on Saturday 25th and end on Sunday 26th of August. It promises to be a long, but enjoyable, weekend. Watch this space for updates... WT Racing has now secured an official sponsor for Season 2006: WheelsNThings.com, a well-established local car accessories supplier. At the end of season 2005 we set to work on looking for sponsorship for the following season. During 2005 we had been in contact with the director of a local car accessories shop called WheelsNThings. Jason Ferguson (its chairman) took an interest in the team from day one, but as he had only just set up his own website for the business, he wasn't in a position to help out financially. Now, we're officially onboard for sponsorship. In this way we can promote both the team and the store. In the UK alone, motorsports generate huge public interest, which can be exploited in order to access a largely untapped market on the internet. Will Thomas of WTRacing said "Hopefully this joining will allow us to turn our vision of WTRacing becoming a competitive team into a reality". Jason Ferguson of wheelsnthings.com said "Motorsport is a very expensive business. This year we aim to raise Will's profile and help him build upon his performances on the track. We are currently speaking to some of our premium product manufacturers in search of some of the product sponsorship deals available." |
